Heading into Sunday afternoon's game, the Marlins had scored four total runs in support of starter Kevin Slowey while he was still in the game. Before Slowey took the mound in a 14-2 victory over the Phillies, he already had a five run lead to work with.

Entering play, Roy Halladay had an earned run average over six, and struggled in his previous start against Cleveland.

Miami, whose offense has been inconsistent for most of the year, got off to a quick start against Halladay in the first. Juan Pierre led off the game with a walk, and with one out Placido Polanco walked and Justin Ruggiano was hit by a pitch.

Marcell Ozuna followed with a double to give the Marlins a 2-0 lead, and with two outs, shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria hit a triple to right center field which gave the Marlins and Kevin Slowey an early 5-0 advantage.

Slowey successfully kept the Phillies lineup off the board before the Marlins added four more runs in the top of the third. Justin Ruggiano was hit to begin the inning, and Ozuna and Dobbs both reached on a walk and single, respectively, prior to a grand slam off the bat of Hechavarria.

Halladay was promptly taken out of the game following the grand slam which gave Miami a 9-0 edge. In two and a third innings, he gave up four hits and all nine runs while walking and striking out four.

Lefty Raul Valdes replaced Halladay for two and a third innings, and aside from giving up an RBI-single to Ozuna to push Miami's lead to ten, was able to minimize the damage.

Hechavarria's seven runs batted in are a career high for the young shortstop. Ozuna also contributed three hits in addition to his three RBIs.

Ruggiano, in addition to a web gem catch to rob Chase Utley of an extra base hit in the fourth inning, hit one of his two home runs in the eighth off of Chad Durbin to make it an 11-0 contest.

Slowey earned his first victory since September of 2010 when he was a member of the Minnesota Twins. He went seven innings and gave up two hits and no runs while walking two and striking out seven.

Philadelphia scored twice off of A.J. Ramos in the eighth, but otherwise struggled offensively.

Miami heads to San Diego for a three game series with the Padres which begins on Monday night.
