The Miami Marlins will get a chance to break their nine-game losing streak tonight, but in order to do so, they will need to find some answers for Jacob Turner's various pitching problems. The Marlins prospect will make his first major league start of the season tonight against the New York Mets.
Pitching Matchup
Proj Win% | Proj ERA | FIP | ERA | Marlins | Mets | ERA | FIP | Proj ERA | Proj Win% |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
.433 | 4.56 | --- | --- | Turner | Marcum | 5.77 | 3.30 | 3.46 | .560 |
The Marlins will debut Turner after demoting him to Triple-A before the season began. Turner has struggled all season, so the prospects of him looking good tonight are not great, but he had a successful stint just last year, so it is not out of the question.
Shaun Marcum has recovered decently from his injury in 2012. The Mets signee will make his seventh start of the season and will look to add on his effective peripherals and maybe get his ERA down. Against the Marlins, that is almost a given.
Lineup
Order | Player | Proj wOBA vs. RHP |
---|---|---|
1 | Juan Pierre | .294 |
2 | Placido Polanco | .278 |
3 | Derek Dietrich | --- |
4 | Marcell Ozuna | .304 |
5 | Chris Coghlan | .307 |
6 | Ed Lucas | --- |
7 | Greg Dobbs | .286 |
8 | Jeff Mathis | .255 |
9 | Pitcher | --- |
Oh goodness, this lineup. Jeff Matis, who should nto be starting major league games as a rule, is starting against the righty Marcum instead of the left-handed Rob Brantly. Ed Lucas will make his Marlins starting debut while batting sixth in the lineup.
This is going to be ugly.
Notes
- If you want to read more on Turner's expectations tonight, read my article on Turner's expected strikeout performance based on his swinging strike rate. I swear, it will make you feel better.
- I will be out for the early portion of this game, but I hope to catch part of Turner's actual start.
Bold Prediction: Mets def. Marlins 5-2
