Triple-A: New Orleans Zephyrs
L 5-6 (F/7) vs. Round Rock Express
Kevin Kouzmanoff, DH: 3-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI
Matt Neil, SP: 3 IP, 4 H, 6 ER, 3 BB, 4 K
In the least eventful Marlins-affiliated game of the day, the Zephyrs lost in a made up game to Round Rock. On the bright side, Kevin Kouzmanoff collected three hits, raising his batting average to an even .300.
Double-A: Jacksonville Suns
W 11-2 @ Pensacola Blue Wahoos
Jake Marisnick, LF: 3-for-5, 2 HR (5,6), 2B, SB, 9 RBI
Christian Yelich, CF: 2-for-4, 3B, BB
Mark Canha, 1B: 3-for-5
Robert Morey, SP: 6 IP, 6 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K
Double-A Jacksonville had a huge win over Pensacola, thanks to the fantastic performance of Jake Marisnick. Marisnick, playing left field for a chance, hit two grand slams! This was probably the most outstanding performance from an individual in the Marlins farm system that we've seen all season. Marisnick has had his ups and downs with Jacksonville this season, but perhaps this game will signal the start of him playing like the outfielder everyone knows he has the potential to be.
High Class-A: Jupiter Hammerheads
W 4-3 @ St. Lucie Mets (F/10)
Brent Keys, LF-CF: 2-for-5
Casey Kotchman, DH: 1-for-5, RBI
Nathan Eovaldi, SP: 4 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 1 K
Nick Wittgren, RP: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, SV (12)
Wow, so many important events happened in this game. First of all, Casey Kotchman singled home the game-winning run in the tenth. Kotchman is hitting .316 since joining the Hammerheads, but I suspect he will get a few more starts before moving up. Next, Nathan Eovaldi pitched in his second rehab start with the Hammerheads, looking just okay in four innings of work. Also, Brent Keys got two hits, adding on to his .432 OBP in his last ten games. Finally, Nick Wittgren picked up his twelfth save, which is first among all FSL pitchers in 2013.
Low Class-A: Greensboro Grasshoppers
W 8-2 @ Delmarva Shorebirds
Jesus Solorzano, RF: 3-for-4, 3B, SB (13), RBI
Yordy Cabrera, 3B: 3-for-5, HR (7)
Mason Hope, SP: 5 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K
Another day, another Greensboro Grasshoppers sky-high run total. The Grasshoppers have scored thirty-two runs in their last three games and forty-six in their last five games. A lot of credit should go to Yordy Cabrera who is starting to show off some of his raw power, hitting three homers in his last three games. Jesus Solorzano is another player who has been nearly unstoppable at the plate over the last couple games. Also, Mason Hope turned in another very impressive start.
What a great day in the Marlins farm system!
