Attendance: 13,876
Hero of the Game: Chris Coghlan (0.157 WPA)
Goat of the Game: Chad Qualls (-0.399 WPA)
Play of the Game: Desmond Jennings singled to right field in the ninth inning. Kelly Johnson scored. Evan Longoria advanced to third base. (-0.399 WPA)

The Miami Marlins appeared to be on track for at least a competitive matchup, if not an outright win. The middle of the order in Derek Dietrrich, Marcell Ozuna, Chris Coghlan, and Justin Ruggiano was excellent, helping to drive in the Marlins' first three runs in the game and give the Fish an early 4-0 lead. Chris Coghlan continued to play well, not only contributing with the triple that drove in two of those runs, but also with his first home run of the season in the sixth inning.

It would have been nice to see the Marlins' pitching staff deliver on a night in which the team put up six runs. Unfortunately, that simply was not the case. Kevin Slowey did not walk anyone and struck out four in 5 1/3 innings, but he also allowed eight hits and four runs during his time out there. The bullpen did not help, as Ryan Webb, Mike Dunn, and Chad Qualls combined to give up three runs (one of Slowey's runs were scored on Webb's watch) with just one strikeout and two walks.

This led to the Rays fighting back and tying the game up at 5-5 and then at 6-6 after the Fish took the lead in the top of the eighth inning. In the bottom of the ninth, Dunn allowed consecutive singles to Kelly Johnson and Evan Longoria, and while the Fish got two more outs, Desmond Jennings singled in the winning run off of Chad Qualls to deliver the seventh-straight loss for the Marlins.
