Triple-A: New Orleans Zephyrs
W 5-1 vs. Omaha Storm Chasers
Jake Smolinski, LF: 2-for-3, 2B, 3 RBI
Kevin Kouzmanoff, 3B: 2-for-3, BB
Doug Mathis, SP: 7.0 IP, 2 H, 4 BB, 5 K
Jonathan Albaladejo, RP: 1.0 IP, 2 K, SV (2)
Behind seven strong innings from Doug Mathis, New Orleans was able to win their fourth straight game, all of those wins coming against the Storm Chasers.
Doug Mathis, 29, hasn't pitched in the majors since 2009, and he spent part of last year in Japan. Nonetheless, if Mathis keeps up and starts walking less batters, it's fair to say he has an outside chance at seeing some time with the Marlins in 2013.
Jake Smolinski appears to be starting to figure things out, as his two hits Sunday added to his total of nine hits in his last eight games.
Double-A: Jacksonville Suns
L 0-2 vs. Birmingham Barons
Christian Yelich, CF: 0-for-4
Bryan Evans, SP: 6.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 8 K
Jacksonville only reached base four times in a rough loss to Birmingham. Nick McCully and three other relievers embarrassed the talented Jacksonville lineup. On the bright side, Bryan Evans looked great in just his second start of the season. The Suns fall to 26-20 on the season with the loss.
High Class A: Jupiter Hammerheads
L 0-1 @ Palm Beach Cardinals
Brent Keys, LF: 2-for-3, BB
Andrew Heaney, SP: 5.0 IP, 4 H, BB, 6 K
Despite Andrew Heaney turning in five scoreless innings of work, Jupiter was unable to get a run on the board against Palm Beach yesterday. This is made even more embarrassing by the fact that Brent Keys was their lead-off hitter, and he was followed by Logan Morrison, Austin Barnes, and others. Morrison is only 4-for-23 in six games with Jupiter on his rehab assignment.
Low Class A: Greensboro Grasshoppers
W 11-2 vs. Delmarva Shorebirds
Jesus Solorzano, RF: 4-for-5, 2 2B, 2 SB (9,10), 2 RBI
Cody Keefer, DH: 2-for-4, HR (3), 2 RBI
Scott Lyman, RP: 5.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, BB, 2 K
Greensboro exploded Sunday night, scoring more than they have in a single game all season. Jesus Solorzano had four hits, two doubles, and two steals out of the #3 hole. Cody Keefer and Matt Juengel both hit their third home runs of the year.
