The Miami Marlins took the win in a close game against the Philadelphia Phillies. The game doubled not only as a close game until the latter stages of the game, but it was also a confusing offensive affair for the typically befuddled Marlins offense. On one hand, the Marlins put out 11 hits against Cole Hamels and the Phillies' bullpen. On the other hand, nine of the 11 hits were singles and the Fish also struck out 13 times in the game. That included 10 strikeouts for Hamels, who only threw six innings and whiffed 41.7 (!) percent of batters faced.

Somehow, the Marlins pulled off two runs against Hamels despite that. The Fish struck first after singles by Adeiny Hechavarria, Derek Dietrich, and Marcell Ozuna drove home the first run. Ruggiano killed the rally with a double play grounder to finish that inning, and the Phillies retaliated quickly with a Domonic Brown home run in the very next inning. The Fish fought back in the sixth inning as, with two outs and Placido Polanco on first, Ruggiano redeemed himself with a double to deep right field to drive in the go-ahead and deciding run. The Marlins tacked on three insurance runs in the eighth inning.

This was all in support of Alex Sanabia, who earns his third win of the season after another mediocre start. He did strike out three batters and induced another 10 whiffs. Once again, Sanabia got swings and misses of 11.3 percent of his pitches and was only able to strike out three batters, continuing to baffle Marlins fans. He scattered seven hits but was twice bailed out in part by two double plays turned by Hechavarria, Dietrich, and Nick Green.

The Marlins have won two in a row and will go for their astonishing third straight victory tomorrow night, with Jose Fernandez on the mound.
