Triple-A: New Orleans Zephyrs
W 5-3 vs. Tacoma Rainiers
Jake Smolinski, LF: 3-for-4, 2B, HR
Bryan Petersen, RF: 2-for-3, 2B, BB
Jacob Turner, SP: 7.0 IP, 9 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5 K
Chris Hatcher, RP: 1.0 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, SV (11)
In his toughest test of the season, Jacob Turner outperformed one of the top pitching prospects in baseball, James Paxton. Paxton, who struck out 10 batters, gave up three runs to New Orleans in 5.2 innings.
With a 5:1 GB: FB ratio, Turner was able to keep the ball on the ground, and get outs by pitching to contact. One has to feel good for Turner, who seems to have turned the corner in his last three starts.
Double-A: Jacksonville Suns
L 2-3 @ Mobile Bay Bears
Daniel Pertusati, PH: 1-for-1, 3B
Ryan Fisher, 3B: 0-for-1, 3 BB
Sam Dyson, SP: 4.2 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 K
Arquimedes Caminero, RP: 2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K
Sam Dyson couldn't keep up with Mobile's budding superstar Archie Bradley, as the Suns fell to Mobile 2-3. On the bright side, Noah Perio and J.T. Realmuto both had singles off of Bradley. Also, Arquimedes Caminero pitched two scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Caminero is striking out 12.92 batters per nine innings this year, which is second in the Southern League among pitchers with 18 or more innings pitched.
High Class A: Jupiter Hammerheads
W 8-7 @ Tampa Yankees
Michael Main, RF: 3-for-4
Jose Urena, SP: 4.0 IP, 11 H, 6 ER, 1 BB, 3 K
Rob Waite, RP: 2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
Nick Wittgren, RP: 1.0 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, SV (8)
Jupiter had their second improbable ninth-inning comeback in three days, defeating a prospect-laden Tampa ball-club 8-7. For the first time all season, Jose Urena got rocked. He struggled against a formidable lineup including Mason Williams and Gary Sanchez, who hit a three-run home run in the first inning.
Low Class A: Greensboro Grasshoppers
L 4-9 vs. Hagerstown Suns
Anthony Gomez, SS: 2-for-4, 2B, RBI
Cody Keefer, RF: 1-for-3, 2 BB, RBI
Daniel Oliver, SP: 4.0 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 3 K
In a rather uneventful game, Greensboro lost to Tony Renda and the Hagerstown ballclub, a Washington Nationals affiliate. Cody Keefer continued his hot streak, reaching base three times.
