Miami Marlins news: Giancarlo Stanton injured in game versus New York Mets

The Miami Marlins battled back in a tight game versus the New York Mets, as the two team went into extra innings tied at two runs apiece. The Fish tied the game up with a Nick Green sacrifice fly that drove in Justin Ruggiano from third base with no one out in the bottom of the ninth.

However, it was the bottom of the tenth inning that did the most damage to the Fish.

Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton injured himself running out a ground ball with one out in the bottom of the tenth inning. Stanton hit a tapper back to the pitcher and was running hard down the line, and as soon as he hit the bag and was called out, he grabbed his right leg and fell to the ground in obvious pain. The Marlins immediately ran out the training staff and Stanton was eventually lifted off the field and walked with assistance to the clubhouse.

The Marlins officially pulled him from the game in the top of the 11th inning, with Chris Valaika entering the game at first base and shifting Greg Dobbs to right field. The Marlins now only have one remaining bench player left available in backup catcher Miguel Olivo. First baseman Joe Mahoney is unavailable due to an injury.
