Miami Marlins' Adeiny Hechavarria hits three-run home run, first Marlins home run at Marlins Park in 2013

Miami Marlins shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria hits the first Marlins home run at Marlins Park in 2013, blasting a three-run shot to left field. It also breaks the Marlins' nine-game homer-less streak.

The Miami Marlins had gone a long time without a home run in 2013, having last hit one deep in the New York Mets series earlier this year. In the bottom of the fourth inning in tonight's game versus the Washington Nationals, Adeiny Hechavarria changed that story quickly. With runners on second and third and two outs and the Marlins already picking up one run that inning, Hechavarria launched a 1-1 pitch by starter Dan Haren to deep left field for a three-run home run.

Hechavarria's long shot was the first home run by a Marlin in Marlins Park in the 2013 season. The Fish had hit their two previous homers on the road in matchups against the Nationals and Mets. His home run marks the first reactivation of the Monstrosity in center field, and it was going on full tilt, as were the fans.

The home run also represents the first home run in the last nine games for the Marlins, the longest home run drought in quite some time for the Fish. Over the last ten seasons, the Marlins have utilized power-laden lineups, particularly during the 2006 era with players like Hanley Ramirez, Dan Uggla, Miguel Cabrera, and Jorge Cantu on the team. This Marlins club is the first one lacking multiple home run threats in some time, so the drought was unsurprising.

Thankfully, Hechavarria broke it up with one compact swing on an 85 mph floater by Haren. The Marlins took a 4-0 lead, and they extended it to 7-0 in the fifth inning before bouncing Haren from the game.
