The Miami Marlins and Philadelphia Phillies are going at it in their third and final game of this series. The Fish will send out Kevin Slowey, who has been surprisingly decent despite allowing his usual large share of home runs. The Phillies will counter with Roy Halladay, who has been struggling badly since the start of 2013.
Pitching Matchup
Proj Win% | Proj ERA | FIP | ERA | Marlins | Phillies | ERA | FIP | Proj ERA | Proj Win% |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
.397 | 4.92 | 4.98 | 2.19 | Slowey | Halladay | 14.73 | 7.95 | 3.62 | .540 |
Kevin Slowey is not confusing anyone with his performance. If you take a look at his line of strikeouts, walks, and home runs, it almost perfectly matches his poor 2011 season's numbers, except that he has walked more batters on a rate basis this season. The difference and the reason why Slowey has a 2.19 ERA? Batters are hitting just ,216 on balls in play against him. If the strikeouts do not go up or the walks do not go down, expect some harsh regression, though hopefully not today.
Roy Halladay is fooling everyone, at least in the sense that his terrible performance has been quite confusing. He has allowed as many runs this season as he has strikeouts (12 in 7 1/3 innings), combining whiff-heavy stuff with hittable nonsense. Can anyone tell just how good he is after last year was supposed to be his worst year since his 2004? Color me, and the rest of the world, puzzled.
Lineup
Lineups have not yet been released. Fish Stripers, please take care of this before the start of the game!
Notes
- I'll be here for the start of the game and throughout. Hopefully there are enough Marlins fans to gather around the game thread for this final game of the series.
Bold Prediction: Phillies def. Marlins 4-1
