- According to Baseball America the Miami Marlins currently have the fifth most talented minor league system. This is a welcome improvement for the Marlins who have only had the 20th best farm system output from 2009-2012. As most of us already knew, things could be looking up for the Marlins soon.
- Forbes released their annual team value list today with the Marlins placing 26th. According to Forbes, the Miami Marlins were one of six teams that did not have a positive operating income in 2012, which could be part of the explanation behind the 2012 firesale. Check out the link to see the entire league's data.
- Gorkys Hernandez might soon find himself on the way out of Miami. Hernandez is out of options meaning that if he does not start the season in the majors he could be sent through waivers and possibly be claimed by another team.
- If the previous link did not already spoil it for you, the Marlins beat the Red Sox 5-1 today behind a good pitching performance by Kevin Slowley. Here is the box score.
Around the League
- MLB.com has the projected Opening Day lineup for all 30 teams in the major leagues.
- The Cardinals have reportedly resigned Adam Wainwright to a five year $97.5 million contract extension.
- Three days till the first MLB game of the year!
- Michael takes a peek at what we can expect from incumbent closer Steve Cishek in 2013. Could Cishek be on his way to becoming one of the elite relievers in the major leagues? What about the rest of the bullpen?
- The Marlins have reassigned eight players to minor league camp. Jacob Turner, Daniel Jennings, Kevin Kouzmanoff, Nick Green and Matt Downs were among those sent down that were expected to compete for a spot on the Major League roster. Jacob Turner is by far the most interesting player to be cut today, but the move was not unforeseen.
- The Marlins are in the midst of yet another dispute with fans. A couple of season ticket holders want to switch seats because the Marlins made a minor change to the wall in front of the seats of the fans. The fans do not want to pay, and the Marlins insist on their payment. No matter who is "right" on the subject, there will be no winning for the Marlins.
- The Fish Stripes Fantasy League on Yahoo! is still looking for a few members to join for the draft on Saturday night at 9. The league is a great way to get involved in the Fish Stripes community and hopefully a few of you decide to do it. It will be worth it.
- If you are interested in fantasy baseball in general, you might want to check out the Marlins' fantasy baseball prospects this season.
