Fish Cap: Miami Marlins 5, Philadelphia Phillies 9

The Marlins fell to Philadelphia Saturday night, as Ricky Nolasco showed signs of fatigue while reaching 190 innings pitched on the season. On the bright side, the Miami offense clicked thanks to impressive performances by Donovan Solano and Giancarlo Stanton.

Nolasco Gets Rocked: Ricky Nolasco looked terrible on Saturday. He only lasted five innings and gave up nine hits and five earned runs. In the fifth inning, Nolasco threw an awful 82 MPH breaking ball to Domonic Brown, who hit into right-center field for a triple. Nolasco did this fairly often in this start, leaving too many balls up in the zone. Earlier in the inning, Nolasco let a 93 MPH fastball up in the zone to Chase Utley, who hit a two-run single back up the middle. Leaving balls up in the zone is a common characteristic of pitchers who are physically worn out after an exhausting season. On the bright side, Nolasco struck out four and didn't walk a batter.

Stanton Puts on a Show:

The Marlins are such a better team with Giancarlo Stanton in the lineup. Today, Stanton went 3 for 4 with a walk and his thirty-sixth homer and a double. His bases-loaded single in the bottom of the first was during a full count against one of the premier left-handed pitchers in all of baseball, Cliff Lee. When he hit his solo home run in the third inning, Stanton was actually caught off balance by a 77 MPH curveball. Still, he was able to use his superhuman strength to muscle the ball into the left-center field bleachers.

Miami will face off against the Phillies tomorrow in he final game between these two A.L. East foes. Nate Eovaldi will take the hill for the Marlins and Cole Hamels will pitch for the Phillies. This will be Eovaldi's first career start against Philly.
