The Miami Marlins were so close. Something that has been said often in this blog in the last few games during an ugly seven-game losing streak.

But tonight, the Marlins got over the hump at the expense of the Philadelphia Philies.

Mark Buehrle put in a stellar performance over eight innings that saw him strike out eight batters and walk none on his way to a one-run outing. But that one run was enough to deny him a decision, as the Fish could only back Buehrle up with one run as well. Buehrle did record yet another milestone, however, as he put up his 12th straight season with more than 200 innings pitched.

The Marlins run came off yet another impressive home run by Giancarlo Stanton, who made his return to the lineup and immediately made his presence felt with a double and a towering shot to deep left field. Stanton's home run was caught at the Budweiser Bowtie Bar in the section just above the Jackie Robinson retired number.

With the game tied in the ninth, Bryan Petersen doubled off of Philies right-hander Phillipe Aumont. Following a Jose Reyes groundout, the Phillies wisely intentionally walked Stanton, but Carlos Lee made them pay with a line drive to left on the second pitch of the plate appearance. It was good enough to score Petersen and snap the Marlins' seven-game losing streak.
