The Miami Marlins are trying to snap a seven-game losing streak and end the season on a better note, but as always with this team, winning is getting increasingly difficult to do. The Philadelphia Phillies are coming to town in the penultimate series of the season at Marlins Park, and a likely paltry crowd will get to enjoy a lefty-lefty matchup between Mark Buehrle and Cliff Lee.
Pitching Matchup
Proj Win% | Proj ERA | FIP | ERA | Marlins | Phillies | ERA | FIP | Proj ERA | Proj Win% |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
--- | --- | 4.32 | 3.84 | Buehrle | Lee | 3.18 | 3.07 | --- | --- |
Mark Buehrle is who he always is, except that as of late, he has been more erratic and certainly more homer-prone than usual. For a guy who has very little swing-and-miss stuff, Buehrle cannot afford to keep serving up long balls at the pace that he has as of late this year, especially since he has moved to the "easier" league in the National League.
The fact that Cliff Lee has only won six games this season is a travesty, or at least it would be if I cared about pitcher wins. He has a 3.18 ERA and 3.07 FIP and has been almost a five-win pitcher this season, and in this case I am talking about Wins Above Replacement. It has been an impressive feat for the Phillies to fail as badly as they have when Lee is on the mound.
Lineup
Order | Player | Proj wOBA vs. LHP |
---|---|---|
1 | Gorkys Hernandez | .275 |
2 | Bryan Petersen | .297 |
3 | Jose Reyes | .340 |
4 | GIancarlo Stanton | .400 |
5 | Carlos Lee | .337 |
6 | Donovan Solano | .291 |
7 | John Buck | .300 |
8 | Gil Velazquez | --- |
Oh my goodness Giancarlo Stanton is back in the lineup. My joy can barely be contained.
Of course, Stanton has "returned" from an injury before, only to have to sit for a few games more directly afterwards. This does not mean that Stanton will play all throughout this series, or even this game, but with the Marlins going as poorly as they have, any good news is more than welcome.
