The Miami Marlins look to pick up another victory in this three-game series versus the San Francisco Giants, and they are attempting to do so with their best performing starter of the year. The Fish will get a "Happy Hour With the Fish" start time of 3:40 pm EST against the Giants, and they will look to cap the series and move on to the next leg of their west coast trip.
The odd thing about today's start to me is that it will come at a very inopportune time for me. This Fish Striper is going to be driving up from south Florida to Gainesville to see his girlfriend and make his eventual way back home for an extended stay in Georgia. The disappointing thing is that I will end my trip just after the game begins, so this game preview on the thread will be lacking. Sorry folks, you'll have to help your fellow Fish Stripers fill in the blanks here.
Pitching Matchup
Proj Win% | Proj ERA | FIP | ERA | Marlins | Giants | ERA | FIP | Proj ERA | Proj Win% |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
.533 | 3.68 | 2.43 | 2.75 | Sanchez | Vogelsong | 4.19 | 3.46 | 4.19 | .473 |
Anibal Sanchez is coming off of his best career start outside of his no-hitter in his rookie season, having struck out 14 Diamondbacks on the way to an eventual 3-2 Marlins win. The Fish have to be excited to send him out once more against a Giants lineup that is mediocre. While I do not believe that Sanchez will continue his hot, winning ways, the Marlins can still expect a decent performance from their second-best starter.
Ryan Vogelsong will take over for the Giants, and he has had a season that you might expect from him. His FIP is a little more impressive because of his inflated strikeout rate, as he is getting about the same number of swinging strikes as he has throughout his career and is somehow striking out a career-best 25 percent of hitters. He'll look to continue his decent pitching ways against the Fish.
Lineup
Fish Stripers, I'm going to need your help on the lineup. Someone post it as it goes live.
