The Marlins lost their sixth game in a row Friday night. This time it was in front of the home crowd. The Marlins have not been hitting, but it was especially painful on this occasion as they only managed three hits the entire ball game. Joe Saunders pitched a complete game for Arizona.
Joe Saunders
The Diamondbacks starting pitcher lowered his ERA to 0.90 with this shutout. He was not only good, he got stronger as the game went on. The broadcasters mentioned that while his fastball was topping 88mph at the beginning of the game, in the last two innings, he was actually touching 91mph. Also, Saunders induced 17 ground ball outs. In fact, Ryan Roberts made a dazzling play in the first inning. He was by far the defensive player of the night.
Anemic Offense
The only Marlin hits belong to Gaby Sanchez, Emilio Bonifacio, and Omar Infante. And even these were just singles. Ozzie experimented with the line-up by placing Sanchez in the seventh spot, and Donnie Murphy in the two-hole (Murphy played because the Marlins gave Jose Reyes the day off), Nevertheless, nothing is working right now. There are quite a few guys slumping at the plate. And to make matters worse, the Marlins face off against the ace of the Arizona team on Saturday
David Samson
Since there is not much to write about regarding this game, I will share with you something that was said during the broadcast. David Samson competed his long run from Pompano Beach to Marlins Park yesterday. He was exhausted when it was over. He did this to raise money for various charities.
The Marlins continue their four game series with Arizona. Anibal vs. Ian Kennedy. Hopefully the Marlins can score a run this time.
