Ramirez was placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Aug. 3, with a sprained left shoulder. The earliest the 27-year-old shortstop can be reinstated is Aug. 18, when the team is at San Diego.
Ramirez has now been on the DL twice this year, with the first coming on June 6 with a left back strain.
Given the fact that starters haven't been going anywhere near deep in a game, the Marlins decided to add some bullpen help and not someone to help out with the offense. So they recalled Jose Ceda. Now, I'm not sure how much help Mr. 10.13 ERA will be, but the bullpen needs some relief.
Ceda may not be with us for very long. Ryan Webb began his rehab assignment last night in Jupiter. While it didn't go swimmingly, he did throw 1.1 innings allowing 4 hits, 1 walk and a run. He could be back as early as August 15. There is at least another rehab game in his future.
Not to mention the possibility of Hanley's return.
Then there is Omar Infante who is hitting off a tee would could be back by August 20. Did you know that Infante has the fourth best batting average (.411) in the Majors since the All-Star break?
If they all hit their due dates, I'm not exactly sure how it will all pan out other than Ceda and probably Steve Cishek will be gone for a little while. But on September 1, the Marlins can expand their roster to the whole 40-man if they desire, they won't, but they could.
