Javier Vazquez has been placed on the bereavement list due to a death in his wife's family.
Florida Marlins right-hander Javier Vazquez(notes) has been put on the bereavement list following the death of a relative on his wife’s side of the family.
Vazquez left the team Tuesday to be with family in his native Puerto Rico. He’s expected to make his next scheduled start Sunday at Washington.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Vazquez family.
A player placed on the bereavement list must stay on it for at least three days with the maximum being seven days. During that time the Marlins can call up a replacement for him on the 25-man roster.
Don't know that they will since he is starter and is not expected to see action before his next start, but that they can. The Fish might want to add to bullpen help while Mujica rest his bum knee.
We will know soon enough, what the team does.
