The Marlins are opening up a 12 9-game home stand tonight against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pirates have proved to be quite the road warriors winning their first three series on the road while putting together a 7-3 record in the process.

If you live in S. Florida, this game will not be televised through normal channels. So be sure to tip the waitstaff at your favorite sports bar of choice.

Josh Johnson gets the nod for the Marlins. JJ had a pretty good outing in his last start, taking a no-hitter into the eighth. There is probably no cause of concern about his 109 pitch effort effecting tonight's performance. At the end of the game, he wasn't laboring at all. JJ has historically pitched very well against the Pirates and he normally does he best work at home. As long as the offense scores him some runs and plays defense behind him, he should do just fine.

Paul Maholm takes the mound for the Pirates. The lefty has been very effective this season. However, if Maholm's first three starts are any indicator, they can go ahead and award him the trophy for the hard luck starter for 2011. The Pirates have scored a grand total of 4 runs when Maholm has been on the mound. The lefty throws a fastball (87-88 mph), slider, curve and change. The fastball has been his most effective pitch this season, but really, he has shown good command of his whole repertoire so far.

There are some changes to the Marlins lineup:

Coghlan, CF
Infante, 2B
Ramirez, SS
Gaby, 1B
Morrison, LF
Stanton, RF
Buck, C
Bonifacio, 3B
JJ, P

Since Stanton and Hanley aren't hitting at the moment, Edwin decided to break them up for the time being. Donnie Murphy is still nursing a bruise left knee cap but is probably available should a walk-off be needed. The Gaby, LoMo flip is just what Edwin does when the Marlins face a lefty starter.

Ichthyomancy be hating the second Monday of the week. But is happy the Marlins are back in action.

Best of Luck to You!
