Marlins Holding Open Tryouts

If you think you've got the chops--or fastball--to oust Leo Nunez from his position in the pen, or the power to help the Fish replace some of the dingers Dan Uggla carted off to Atlanta, this month you've got the chance to try and prove it.

The Marlins are holding their annual open tryouts Wednesday, February 16, at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter. The tryouts are open to amateur players, ages 16-24, who aren't currently in a college baseball program, as well as released pro players.

If you're in high school, you need a written note from your principal in order to attend the tryouts (so hopefully you haven't been in his or her office recently for setting off cherry bombs in the girl's restroom).

Registration begins at 8 AM, and the tryouts will begin at 9:00 AM on the dot. If you show up even a minute late, you'll be sent home, so be prompt. You should also bring your own baseball gear, and arrive dressed to play, because the locker rooms are reserved for the Big Boys.

If you would like more info on the tryouts, contact the Marlins Assistant Scouting Director Gregg Leonard at (561) 630-1816.

Good luck!
