Open Thread and Ichthyomancy: Marlins at Nationals (9/10)

The Marlins are in the nation's capital to play three against the Nationals. This will be the first game between the two teams since the brawl on September 1. Nyjer Morgan is not expected to play in the opening game or in any game of the series. His appeal was scheduled to be heard on Friday morning. And I doubt he won.

Alex Sanabia is on the mound for the Marlins. His last start didn't go so well but he had to suck it up and go as long as he could. This will be his third start against the Nationals, the first one went well but the second was uh, okay. Alex has thrown 146.1 innings this season and counting, he previous high was 104.1. The rule of thumb is not have an increase from year to year of over 30 innings or the risk of injury increases. All of that said, Alex may be getting a little arm tired.

John Lannan takes the hill for the Nationals. Lannan has thrown six quality starts in his last seven outings. The lefty has only faced the Marlins once this season when he gave up 6 runs in 5 innings. A bit on the strange side, he has pitched better on the road than a home. Lannan is a four-pitch pitcher, throwing a fastball, slider, curve and change. The change is by far his most effective pitch.
