Chris Resop available

The Braves placed Chris Resop on irrevocable outright waivers.  You remember Resop he pitched in the pen for the Marlins in 2005 and 2006.  In the off-season of '06 he was traded to the Angels for Kevin Gregg.

From Fangraphs:

So it appears that Chris Resop will be up for grabs. It’s not terribly surprising that a 28 year old with 27 innings of MLB experience and -0.2 WAR in that time is put on waivers, but Resop isn’t your typical player. He has moved from outfielder to reliever and now to starter in his time in the minor leagues, and he looked phenomenal in AAA this season. Resop struck out 87 batters in just under 80 innings for AAA Gwinnett while inducing grounders on just under 50% of his balls in play.

Since Resop is on irrevocable outright waivers he would be cheap to obtain.  Resop was on the DL with an oblique strain, and began rehab on July 17.  Oblique strains can be tricky, but they do eventually heal.

Not saying the Marlins would want to claim him but if they did it might be possible he could help out in the bullpen.

Just a thought, and maybe not a good one.  But he couldn't be much worse than what some of the guys are doing right now.
