Marlins v. Cardinals makeup game?

As you all know, the Marlins and Cardinals were scheduled to play a game, which was rained out, and it is possible that it will have to be made up.

Joe Capozzi has all of the details.

The Marlins and Cardinals voted to make up their Aug. 8 rainout "only if it’s necessary," said Wes Helms. But if the game is needed, it won’t be played in Sun Life Stadium.

The only available date is Oct. 4, the day after the regular season — and the Miami Dolphins host a Monday Night Football game that night at Sun Life Stadium.

Don’t expect the game to be moved to St. Louis — the Cincinnati Reds wouldn’t like that as they battle the Reds in the NL Central.

One possibility is Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg.

Forget the Trop.  If the game needs to be made up, reimburse all of the Marlins fans who have a ticket for the Aug. 8 game and play the makeup game in Jupiter.  That way the stadium will be sold out and both teams are in a comfortable situation.  No need to go on the road to play in front of a completely empty stadium where no one in that city cares who wins.  Just end the season where it started, at the spring training home for both clubs.
