Sean West was place on the 15-day DL and Alex Sanbia will officially be recalled to make his start.
...the Marlins placed left-hander Sean West on the disabled list with right knee inflammation and recalled right-hander Alex Sanabia, who will start Thursday’s series finale in Pittsburgh instead of West.
West is a talented young pitcher and there is no reason to take a chance on him getting hurt further. While Sanabia isn't the answer to anyone's birthday wish when they were blowing out the candles, he will have to do, for now. The bullpen will see action tonight, but Burke Badenhop is fairly well rested so it may not be that big of a deal if Sanabia can't go deep. Of course, all of this is with the assumption that the Marlins hitters are planning on scoring runs.
Best I can tell Sanabia last pitched on August 11. Assuming this is correct his fastball should have a couple of mph extra in velocity and his breaking pitches will be, well, a little off target early on.
