The Marlins outrighted Dan Meyer to Triple-A New Orleans. To take his spot on the roster the team selected the contract of Jhan Marinez from Double-A Jacksonville.
Meyer was recalled on July 9 and only saw action in one game on the 10th against the Diamondbacks. In that game he pitched a scoreless eighth, giving no hits and walking one. Not sure why the quick turnaround to send him back to NOLA. Maybe his calf is bothering him, maybe they spotted something in his pitching they didn't like, maybe he was just a band-aid for the bullpen while the team was on the long road trip. Whatever is the case, he is no longer on the roster.
Jhan Marinez is a 21 year-old righty who has been in the pen all year in the minors. He started the season in Jupiter but quickly made his way to Double-A. In Double-A his numbers were: 15.2 IP, 9 H, 2.30 ERA, 11.25 K/9 and 4.145 BB/9. So he has a live arm, it will be interesting to see how he handles the jump to the majors.
Welcome aboard Jhan.
