The high flying Padres are in town to play a three game set. Not only are the Padres leading the NL West, they are also possessors of the best record in the National League. This is the second time, of three total, the Marlins will face them this season. The first encounter didn't go all that well for us.
Chris Volstad takes the mound for the Fish. Volstad, for the most part, has been pretty solid this season. As always if he can keep the ball down and hit his spots, he will keep the Marlins in the game. Volstad is quite capable of pitching deep into the game, but hasn't done so recently.
Clayton Richard is on the hill for the Padres. Richard had some trouble in his last outing but for the most part has been excellent this season. The lefty throws an assortment of pitches fast ball, slider, cutter, curve and change. His fast ball and curve are his most effective pitches. This will be his first start against the Marlins.
