From Joe Capozzi
The Marlins did some overhauling of their bullpen today. They called up LHP Taylor Tankersley and RHP Jay Buente from Class AAA New Orleans and demoted struggling RHP Burke Badenhop.
LHP Renyel Pinto was placed on the disabled list with a left hip strain, and infielder Mike Lamb was recalled from New Orleans.
Got all of that?
Lamb replaces OF Bryan Petersen, who was optioned to New Orleans last night. Lamb will be the Marlins’ lefty bat off the bench — a role he struggled in earlier this year before he was demoted to New Orleans.
Something needed to be done. The addition of Lamb as a pinch-hitter might help this time around, hopefully. I am a believer that veterans make better pinch hitters than the younger guys. Petersen wasn't seeing any playing time to speak of and his pinch hitting just wasn't up to snuff, as my grandmother would say. Nor should it have been expected to be. Sending him down is probably the best thing for his future career.
The Hopper, needs to workout his problems, be them mechanical or physical. His sinker isn't sinking in an effective way. When he has everything going he is quite good, but nothing is going in the right direction at the moment.
