Missed this awhile back, but nonetheless, here it is now.
The Marlins finished 27th in value last in revenue but first in operating income. Now, If you listen to the front office they will tell you these numbers are way off. And they could be, lord knows no baseball team opens their books to the public. But by Forbes estimations the Marlins spent less of their revenue, percentage-wise, on baseball operations than any other franchise. This has long been suspected, whether it is true or not, I can't say. But given the warning to the team to spend more once the new stadium is in place, I would guess, while the actual numbers may not be correct, the spirit of the matter is.
