Kyle Skipworth playing for the Phoenix Desert Dogs, as all the Marlins prospects are, had a really good game yesterday in the AFL.
Skipworth, a first-round pick by the Marlins in 2008, plated a career-high six runs and slugged his first two homers of the AFL in what he described as one of his greatest single-game performances.
"I don't think in my professional career I've ever had a six-RBI game," he said, "so this was probably my best day as a professional so far.
In case you don't remember, Skipworth is a catcher. So far in his minor league career he hasn't shown the ability to hit the way the Marlins were hoping he would, but maybe everything is starting to click. Skipworth was drafted out of high school and is only 20 years-old. So it may take some time. But yesterday provided a glimmer of what he might do one day.
Congrats on the great day Kyle.

Oh, in case you don't know what a desert dog is: it is more commonly known as a prairie dog.
