The Marlins name Ozzie Martinez as the organization's Minor League Player of the Year and Elih Villanueva as the Minor League Pitcher of the Year.
The Marlins on Friday announced that right-hander Elih Villanueva has been tabbed the organization's Minor League Pitcher of the Year, and shortstop Ozzie Martinez has been named the Minor League Player of the Year.
Here are the stats for the two.
Both players were with the Jacksonville Suns who once again were champions of the Southern League. Ozzie and Elih, obviously, made important contributions to the team's winning effort. Ozzie has already made his major league debut and did quite well in the short time he was up with the big club. Villanueva has yet to make his, but the Marlins will give the 24-year old a good look over in spring training. While it is doubtful he will make the Marlins in any capacity but if he keeps showing promise, he just might be called up at some point in 2011.
Congratulations Ozzie and Elih!
