Former Marlins News

Didn't mean for this to be regular feature, but this is the offseason and things get kinda weird around here.

Mr. Marlin was inducted into the Broward County Sports Hall of Fame.

Kind of a cool picture of the some of the inductees, click on the link to see it.  Personally, I had no idea that Broward County had a Sports Hall of Fame.

The other is Sergio Mitre.

The New York Yankees have declined their $1.25 million option for right-hander Sergio Mitre, the team said on Tuesday.

Mitre joined the team in late July and went 3-3 with a 6.79 ERA in 12 games. He sat out the first 50 games while serving a suspension for testing positive for a banned substance.

Sergio was never quite right as a pitcher after injuring his shoulder in 2006.  Oh sure, he pitched some games, and some fairly decently ones for the Marlins after that, but compensation injuries kept cropping up later on.

Mitre is now eligible for salary arbitration.

Congratulations to Jeff and Sergio we wish you the best.
