In former Marlins news, the Padres will retain the services of Eulogio De La Cruz but sent Cliff Floyd packing.
The San Diego Padres on Thursday selected the contract of righty Eulogio De La Cruz, and requested unconditional release waivers on righties Cha Seung Baek and Shawn Hill, and outfielder Cliff Floyd.
The 25-year-old De La Cruz made three appearances for the Padres this season and posted a 5.40 ERA. He spent the rest of the year at Triple-A Portland, where he went 2-6 with a 3.12 ERA in 48 games (four starts).
You remember De La Cruz, he was part of the Tigers - Marlins deal that sent Cabrera and Willis to Detroit. He played in six games for us in 2008 and even started one while logging a very impressive 18.00 ERA. The Padres claimed him off waivers and the Marlins said okay, he is yours.
Floyd, a former All-Star, is reaching the end of his career. Next season he will 37 years old. However, that doesn't mean some team won't take a chance on him as a left-handed bat off the bench.
