The Florida Marlins payroll of late, has been climbing, thanks to incentive clauses in some of the contracts.
Entering the final week, Luis Gonzalez($350,000), Arthur Rhodes($325,000), Jorge Cantu ($100,000) and Matt Treanor ($15,000) all had triggered one or more incentive clauses.
Good for them. Get every stinking dollar you can out of Loria's pocket, while you can. Should the players be on the team next season I have no doubt that they will have to put up Ruthian numbers next season in order to get some extra scratch from incentives.
The Marlins are cheap that way.
