Open Thread and Ichthyomancy: Phillies at Marlins (9/21)

This is the final home game of the regular season. The Marlins still have a shot at the Wild Card but in order to make it happen: the Fish have to win. And then get some help along the way.

Volstad looked good in his last start against Houston going 8 innings and allowing only 1 run on 4 hits. His last start against the Phillies he only lasted 3 innings but was taken out of the game for precautionary reasons since he had been struck, twice, in the leg by line drives. Volstad normally performs well in day games.

The Phillies are sending to the mound a soft-tossing lefty by the name of Jamie "Freaking" Moyer. In Moyer's last start against the Marlins the Fish actually won for the first time ever. The batters changed their strategy from swinging at everything he throws to making sure the ball was over the plate. With any luck, they will try that again today. Moyer is about the same whether the game is at night or in the day.

Hanley, more than likely, won't see any action in the game. His expected return is Monday, at the earliest.

In case you were wondering about Anibal, he left the game because a hamstring cramp.
