The Texas Rangers offered up a trade that the Marlins front office rightly turned it down.
Before signing Paul Lo Duca to a minor-league contract, the Marlins wisely rejected the Rangers' request for Chris Volstad in exchange for catcher Gerald Laird, whom they coveted. Although the Marlins figured they had nothing to lose by signing Lo Duca (who has a good relationship with owner Jeffrey Loria and openly lobbied to join the team), there is doubt internally that he will contribute much.
I wouldn't mind having Laird has a Marlin but if the price is going to be Chris Volstad -- I mind A LOT.
Thankfully the front office, as they do most of the time, had their wits about them.
