The Florida Marlins signed their first and second round draft picks .
The Marlins have agreed to terms with first-round draft pick Kyle Skipworth pending a physical, according to a source who has spoken with club officials.
Skipworth, a catcher out of Patriot High School in Riverside, Calif., whom the Marlins selected sixth overall, is on his way to South Florida where he is expected to undergo a medical workup today. An announcement could come as soon as Friday.
Skipworth should be in uniform with the Marlins' Gulf Coast League rookie ball affiliate sometime this weekend.
Second round pick Brad Hand, a left-hander out of Chaska (Minn.) H.S., will be joining him. According to the Chaska Herald, Hand has agreed to a $760,000 signing bonus and will take a physical on Thursday in Jupiter as well.
If you read further down in the article it says Skipworth will be given a signing bonus of around $2.4 million.
The Marlins 17th-round pick decided to opt out for an education or possibly to see if he can improve his status in next year's draft.
According to the News Star in Monore, La., shortstop Ben Soignier, the Marlins' 17th-round draft pick out of Louisiana-Monroe, will return to school for his senior season.
