Okay, for more clarification the Marlins signed Mike Wood to a minor league contract.
Wood returns from a stint in Japan that went about as well as his domestic big league career, which is highlighted by a 5.49 ERA. Part of the Royals’ 2004 trade bounty for Carlos Beltran, the 29-year-old Wood went 3-12, 4.69 in 26 starts for Yokohama last season.
I remember Mike Wood when he was with the Texas Rangers. He was a reliever who threw mainly fast balls and change ups with about 5 mph differential between the two pitches, which isn't bad. Could be better but isn't bad. He also has to ability to start, and if he does, he normally adds a curve ball into the mix.
Wood more that likely will start the season in New Orleans and be an insurance policy should the Marlins need some middle relief for whatever reason during the season.
