Breaking News: The Marlins won't win the NL East

It's official, the Marlins can't win the NL East.....Knock me over with a feather.

Make it 15 years and counting without a division winner for South Florida baseball.

Yes, the Marlins have given us those two World Series titles, but both came via the wild card.

Sunday's 8-5 loss to the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park didn't just drop the last-place Marlins 20 1/2 games behind the Mets, it also mathematically eliminated them from contention in the National League East.

I'm shocked -- shocked I tell you.

Given the way the season was going Fredi made the only logical statement that could be made about the situation at hand.

Well, it was going to happen sooner or later," Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez said.

Surely no one believed that the Marlins were going to win 20 straight and that the Mets were going to lose 20 straight games.

The mathematical elimination from the possibility of winning the NL East was always just a matter of time and the clock struck on Sunday.  But really it is of no matter, it was going to happen some time.
