Matt Dominguez signs

Jim B was the first to announce it on FishStripes in last night's open thread, that Matt Dominguez had signed with the Marlins.

The Marlins agreed to terms Wednesday with first-round draft pick Matt Dominguez, a deal that gives the California prep third baseman a $1.8-million signing bonus. The Marlins always ended up signing their top picks, dating back to 1992.

But the Dominguez negotiations nearly went down to the wire, a few hours before Wednesday night's 11:59 p.m. deadline.

Matt guesses he will be assigned initially to the Jupiter minor league club and after that he will spend his time learning in the instructional league.

Dominguez will be introduced to the fans on Friday.  And naturally, his family plans to attend.

Welcome aboard Matt.
