Wood would be the man

In case you were wondering who the Marlins would send to mound if they ever found themselves in the situation Tampa Bay did on Friday, the answer is: Jason Wood.

Gonzalez said if he ran out of pitchers and needed someone in an emergency spot, he probably would turn first to backup infielder Jason Wood. That would be just fine with Wood, who likes to joke that in 1996, he led the Southern League and Pacific Coast League in ERA.

''I pitched one inning in each league and didn't give up a run either time,'' Wood said.

Let's hope it never comes to that, but if it does, I'm sure Woody would do an excellent job.
