Tracy Ringolsby did his team-by-team MLB reports for the Rocky Mountain News. His main concentration was on salary and here is what he had to say about the Marlins:
FLORIDA increased its payroll a major-league-leading 103 percent and moved into 29th place, ahead of Toronto, for payroll at $30.5 million. The Marlins have 19 players at the minimum salary. Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis combine for $13.85 million, or 45.4 percent of the payroll.
In order for that to be true, Toronto will only field Roy Halladay, Troy Glaus and Vernon Wells. It is possible that I missed where the Blue Jays jettison the other 22 members of their 25-man roster, but I doubt it. In case I did, it should really be interesting to watch the three try and compete in the American League East.
(A note to Mr. Ringolsby: there is this really neat site that covers the salaries of the MLB teams, it's called Cot's Baseball Contracts. I highly recommend checking it out sometime.)
