The Math Teacher of the Year was named and some of the Marlins players contributed to the win.
The Broward County Council of Teachers of Mathematics recently named Michael Powell of Forest Glen Middle School the Mathematics Teacher of the Year.
Powell was recognized for his extensive use of technology and hands-on projects in the classroom, such as participation in the Florida Stock Market Game.
He also has invited guest speakers, including members of the Florida Marlins..
It's great when the Marlins give back to the community but who knew they were math whizzes. I just hope none of the kids in the "Stock Market Game" took their advice too seriously. Come to think about it, the Marlins players could probably guess just as well as the folks on CNBC.
