The Marlins sent home Dontrelle Willis early Tuesday for a couple of reasons. He is starting tonight's series opener against the Mets and the team wasn't scheduled to arrive from Houston until about 3 a.m.
In addition, Willis' wife, Natalie, is due to deliver the couple's first child before month's end. Willis thought she went into labor early and nearly left the team Monday, but it was a false alarm.
I hope the baby holds off its introduction into the world for at least another day, but if it chooses not do so: so be it, the Marlins will make do.
