I meant to mention this yesterday and I'm not sure why it matters today but the Marlins placed Travis Bowyer on release waivers.
Reliever Travis Bowyer was released on Thursday and promptly re-signed to a Minor League contract. Acquired as part of the Luis Castillo trade with the Twins, Bowyer underwent right shoulder surgery last August, and he is expected to miss his second straight season.
None of the other clubs claimed him so the Marlins were able to re-sign him. The reason for no one claiming him is he is damaged goods at this point and has yet to prove he can pitch in the majors.
The reason for doing the release and re-sign thing probably has something to do with restructuring his contract, just a guess.
