Minor League Baseball ranks the Top 20 Marlins Prospects

John Sickels at Minor League Ball takes a look at the Marlins organization and ranks the top 20 prospects.

John is considered an expert in the field.

Here is the list:  The Marlins Top 20 Prospects

Personally, I think some of the pitchers are graded a little low.  But then again, young pitchers are hard to project.

He also gives his opinion on Cameron Maybin.

Maybin could be Florida's Opening Day center fielder. I think that is rushing things; he's not ready yet.

If it were up to me, Maybin would go to Double-A to begin '08, with a promotion to Triple-A on tap in late June if he's playing well, then a chance to start in the majors in '09.

I completely agree with this.  Maybin has potential which still needs to be developed in the minors.  In the meantime, center field can be handled by some combination of Cody, Alfredo and possibly Carroll.

If you're looking for an insightful prospect ranking book, look not further than John Sickles' Baseball Prospects Book 2008.

I buy it every year.
