As Dan brought to light in the Open Thread comments last night, the Marlins made some roster moves yesterday.
Outfielder Reggie Abercrombie and right-hander Jose Garcia were claimed off waivers by the Astros and Athletics, respectively.
Catcher Paul Hoover, outfielder Todd Linden and infielder Jason Wood were outrighted to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Like Wood, Linden and Hoover would return on minor league deals and likely receive invites to spring training.
The Marlins' 40-man roster is at 36.
Abercrombie being claimed by the Astros isn't that surprising. He has the physical ability to play at the highest level but has never put it all together. And I must say, I'm not all that sorry to see the Reggie experiment over as the center fielder. However, I do wish him well in Houston where they are anticipating using him as fill-in outfielder.
Garcia is coming off Tommy John surgery and won't be ready to pitch until the after mid-season next year and even then, he will be just trying to regain some semblance of his old form.
As for the others who were outrighted and not claimed off waivers, it allows the club to initially sign them to minor league contracts while waiting to see what the offseason brings.
