Marlins shortstop Hanley Ramirez set a Marlins record and tied the major-league record for leadoff home runs by a rookie Wednesday when he hit his seventh leadoff home run of the season. Nomar Garciaparra, now with the Dodgers, hit seven leadoff homers when he was a rookie with the Boston Red Sox in 1997.
For all of the Red Sox fans: Boston. Shortstop. Rookie. Major League. Record. I will let the irony sink in.
To make the night even more special: He also hit just the 13th inside-the-park home run in franchise history.
