I don't normally talk about achievements of players on other teams but last night something special happened in baseball.
Gary Matthews Jr., of the the Texas Rangers, hit the natural cycle.
In case you don't know, the natural cycle is where one achieves the cycle in order, i.e. 1B, 2B, 3B, HR.
The achievement is on par with a pitcher throwing a perfect game. In fact, it is exactly equivalent to that. Before last night there had been fourteen perfect games thrown in the modern of era of baseball and only thirteen who hit for the natural cycle. Now they are even.
I didn't get to see the Marlins play last night but I did get to see the natural cycle. Possibly a fair tradeoff. But honestly, I would have rather seen the Marlins, even if it wasn't a win.
