What to do about the Rotation

The brain trust has some decisions to make.

Manager Joe Girardi said he and pitching coach Rick Kranitz would get together on the charter flight home Monday night to discuss the rotation after Brian Moehler's successful return from the disabled list Sunday.

Moehler, out since July 2 with a sprained right foot, gave up two hits through five innings before being chased by three consecutive one-out hits in the sixth. But that was enough to convince Girardi the right-hander is healthy, leaving the Marlins with six starters.

''I'm not considering a six-man rotation. But tomorrow I could change my mind, right?'' Girardi said.

I would expect that Moehler will be going to the pen.  If for no other reason, the veteran is better equipped to handle relief duty.

As for a six-man rotation, I don't expect the powers that be to go to it now.  But don't be surprised come late August or early September to see it implemented.  That will be about the time the club may want to save the young arms from pitching too many innings.
