Renyel Pinto, last night, pitched himself back down to Albuquerque.
After the game, the Marlins optioned Pinto to Triple-A Albuquerque and recalled left-hander Jason Vargas. Since Pinto threw 72 pitches, he would not be available in the next couple of days. The Marlins didn't want to be caught short-handed with Saturday's doubleheader looming.
He did get his first career save, however.
Vargas hasn't exactly been stellar in his time in Triple-A. He has gone 2-2 with an ERA of 4.54 allowing 42 H in 37.2 IP. All of his work came as starter for the Isotopes. He has hit pretty well though, with a .333 BA.
I'm a little surprised Resop wasn't recalled but I guess the team wanted to swap a lefty for a lefty.
